Join CrossOver Healthcare Ministry on October 19, 2023, for the Compassionate Care Awards 2023: 40 Years of a Healthier Richmond. A 6 p.m. reception will be followed by a 7 p.m. dinner and program. Our 2023 honorees are Bob Burton, Drs. Gigi and Mark deBlois, and Dr. Linda Pinsky.
While honoring Bob, Gigi, Mark, and Linda in particular, this year's CCAs will also celebrate CrossOver's 40th birthday. Since our founding in 1983, we have been powered by volunteers, and now, thanks to the skill and dedication of over 350 volunteers, CrossOver serves over 6,600 clients each year. We're delighted to celebrate our 40th year fostering health in the Richmond area.
We hope you will join us to honor Bob Burton, Drs. Gigi and Mark deBlois, and Dr. Linda Pinsky and to celebrate 40 years of CrossOver providing compassionate care to our Richmond-area neighbors.
Bob Burton has been volunteering as an eye technician in CrossOver's eye clinic for the past eight years. For the past three years, he also has been fundraising for CrossOver by painting the number signs on the homes in his neighborhood. In lieu of payment, he asks his neighbors to make a contribution to CrossOver. To date, Bob has raised over $14,000!
Bob spent forty years in the field of blind rehabilitation, mostly with the Virginia Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired. He retired in 2021 after having served as the deputy commissioner for services for the agency for ten years.
Outside of CrossOver, Bob also volunteers at Feed More in the packaging area. Bob has a passion for music. He plays with the praise team at Trinity United Methodist Church and plays in a 50s and 60s rock band, The Escorts. He has been married to his wife, Libby, for fifty years, and they have two adult sons, David and Brian, and four grandchildren.
Gigi deBlois, MD, and Mark deBlois, MD, met as classmates at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan. They got married, then matched as a couple to the Medical College of Virginia in pathology and orthopedics, respectively. They have made Richmond their home for their family and their careers since 1980.
Gigi worked full time until her retirement in 2017. She began volunteering at CrossOver in 2016, serving on the board, as board president, and now assisting with the fax server in the operations center. Mark retired in 2015 after a career with OrthoVirginia. While at OrthoVirginia, Mark was one of the physicians participating in Access Now to provide specialty/surgical care to patients referred from area safety net clinics. He began volunteering at CrossOver in 2016.
Retirement has been a joy for Gigi and Mark! They are grateful to spend time with family and friends and indulge in their love of travel. Gigi appreciates having time to learn the game of golf and marvel at birds. Mark enjoys golf, fly fishing and working on projects in his woodshop. He is also an excellent spotter of birds for Gigi to identify! They have two daughters and three grandsons.
Linda Pinsky, OD, started volunteering one or more times each week in CrossOver’s eye clinic in August of 2020. From 1986 through 2010, Linda volunteered in the CrossOver eye clinic every year on her birthday. Before retiring, Linda owned one of the largest optometric practices in central Virginia.
Outside of CrossOver, Linda volunteers as an optometrist with the Medical Reserve Corps and Remote Area Medical (RAM). She is a member of Congregation Beth Ahabah and is a member of Hadassah, a women’s service group through her synagogue. Linda volunteers as an usher at the Altria Theater and the Carpenter Center. She is also a member of the Lifelong Learning Institute.
Linda and her husband have two children. When Linda has spare time, she enjoys knitting, crocheting, weaving, and baking. She also plays clarinet in multiple music groups and concert bands in the area.
Thank you to our hosts, Isaac Wornom, MD, FACS, and Susan Wornom!
